Love chess? Love midcentury design? Then you will love this chess set by Austin Cox.
Goofbay’s eBay sniper detected this little find today. According to the seller, this set, which is up for auction on the eBay forum, is the smaller of the two modernist-inspired aluminum chess sets designed by Austin E Cox for Austin Enterprises and manufactured by the Alcoa Aluminum Company.
The seller describes the pieces as being ‘in good condition’ with ‘some small scratches and nicks as you would expect from a set that is nearly 50 years old’. The set dates back to 1966, and all the pieces are stamped with that date. It is being sold in its original wooden presentation display case with a blue Plexiglas sliding lid. It is currently up for sale at £68.
