eBay’s Global sales have lept 16% in the first quarter with fashion being a core driving force, according to Drapers.
eBay Uk has its Fashion Outlet which currently hosts over 100 highstreet retailers from House of Fraser to Karen Millen. eBay sales hit £1.5 billion in the first quarter of 2011 with over one million pairs of women’s shoes being sold and more than foure million mens coats and jackets.
For many years, recognised high street fashion brands have shyed away from eBay; because of a reputation for sellers offering fake garments and the bargain hunting audience within the site.
The Outlet has been very successful in creating a trusted marketplace for clothes shopping through eBay.
Clare Gilmartin of eBay commented:
“Our fashion Outlet continues to attract leading UK brands. Whatever your brand or product, the chances are that people are searching for it on eBay so it makes sense for brands to be where their shoppers are. Our recent appointment of Miriam Lahage will make sure we continue to grow the category and capitalise on the strength of the online fashion market.”
